New Zealand golfers take on China in the Ryder Cup finals
A crowd of more than 70,000 gathered in the heart of the capital to watch the first round of the Ryder Tournament, which will be played on Sunday at Bonneville Golf Course in Utah.
The event’s biggest crowd yet was made up of men’s and women’s golfers who will be competing in a Ryder Cup quarter-finals match for the first time.
The crowd included former world No. 1 Henrik Stenson, who is currently ranked as the No. 3 player in the world.
The tournament’s main event is on Sunday and is billed as a semi-finals, with the men’s champion taking on the champion of the men in the final.
The men will face off against the defending champion of women’s Ryder Cup, Henrik Wieth, in the second round.
Wimbledon champions Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal are the main competitors for the women, while the top men in men’s golf are taking on reigning champion, Roger Fed, in a double-header at the Parc des Princes on Sunday.
