Edgewood Golf Course to be upgraded to world class – News RTE 1 title Edgemont Golf Course, Edgewick Golf Course upgrade to world-class
Edgewock Golf Course in Edgewwick, Co Dublin, has been awarded world-leading rating by the International Golf Federation.
The new Edgewicks golf course will be upgraded with world-first amenities and improvements including a water treatment system, a new water tower, a dedicated hole area, a playground, a large pool, a tennis court and a gym.
It will also be the first golf course in the UK to be rated world-high-performance.
The golf course has been ranked as one of the best in the world by the UK’s Independent Golf Magazine.
A new, state-of-the-art water treatment plant will also come online.
It was completed in 2017 and is expected to bring an additional 30 million litres of water a day.
The facility was built in conjunction with the local authority and will also have a dedicated tennis court.
Edgewills golf course is one of four new golf courses that were awarded world firsts.
The other three were the Rialto Golf Course (in Co Wicklow), Glen O’Neill Golf Club in Co Donegal and the Wicklow Golf Club (in Dublin).
The golf courses in Ireland are rated from 0 to 100 on the IGA World Golf Ranking System.
“Edgewood is a world-famous golf course with a long tradition of serving the Irish community, and we look forward to welcoming our guests in the new year with the best possible facilities and amenities for them,” said Mr Byrne.
The course was awarded the world-wide best rating by Golf Digest, which was made by golf fans across the world.
“The Edgewards reputation for the quality of its golf course facilities and facilities of its people make it the ideal location for the next generation of golfers to enjoy the wonderful game of golf and the enjoyment of the beautiful countryside of Ireland,” said Gerry Murray, chairman of the Irish Golf Federation, which is responsible for overseeing the development of Edgewill Golf Course.
The Edgewoks new facility will be open to the public from December 31.
It is also expected to host the inaugural World Golf Championships next year.
It also means that the course will feature in the 2017 edition of the Guinness Book of World Records.
The latest results of the IGC World Golf Rankings for the United Kingdom show that the Edgewell Golf Course is now the UKs second highest rated golf course after the Riesling Club at The Hague.
It comes after the Edgemons top-ranked course in Donegal, The Glen Oates, was awarded a new rating of 100 by the IGG, the world governing body for golf courses.
The GlenOates has hosted the Irish Open, the Irish Ryder Cup and the European Tour for the past two years.
