The biggest names in tennis and the rest of the sport could be coming to a golf course in Australia
The biggest name in tennis will be joining the Australian Open this week.
The Open has announced that the Australian Rules Golf Course at Rutger’s will host the first-ever Australian Open tournament on March 15.
The tournament is expected to draw an estimated 6,000 to 7,000 players to the Australian capital, with the winner taking home a $1.1 million prize.
The Australian Rules is a private, three-day event that attracts the best of the best.
It is also the longest-running and most prestigious tournament in the world.
Australian Rules golf course will be playing host to the first ever Australian Open, according to Tennis Australia.
It will be played on the 6,200-acre property that was formerly home to the famous Duke of Wellington.
Tennis Australia chief executive David Lythgoe said it was a great opportunity for Australian Rules to showcase the country’s best talent.
“It’s fantastic to be able to bring Australian Rules golf to the city of Brisbane,” he said.
“We’re looking forward to welcoming some of the world’s most skilled players to join the Open for the first time and to showcase Australian Rules.”
The Open, which is currently held in Melbourne, will host a total of 13 events from April 7-16.
